(serves 6 & takes 45 min + overnight chilling)
½ cup + 3 tbsp unsalted butter
½ cup granulated sugar
1 large egg yolk
1½ cups all purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup pure maple syrup
¼ cup whipping cream
1½ cups coarsely chopped pecans
1. preheat oven to 350°F. butter 9" x 9" cake pan. in a medium bowl, beat ½ cup butter, ¼ cup sugar, & egg yolk. add flour & salt. place dough in prepared pan with ½" on the sides. bake crust 20 minutes.
2. in a medium saucepan over high heat, combine maple syrup, ¼ cup sugar, cream, 3 tbsp butter. bring to boil for 30 seconds, stirring until butter melts. remove from heat & add nuts.
3. pour hot filling into crust. bake bars 15 minutes. cool to room temperature. cover & chill overnight. cut into bars & serve.
